Melk’s claim to fame is it’s Benedictine Abby which often served as Maria Theresa’s hotel (along with her entourage of 200 or so). So while the Abby itself wasn’t (isn’t) that big, the royal rooms were. We had a delightful morning there before we left for our day cruise through the Wachau Valley …more on that to come. The picture above is of the almost 600 foot long corridor that abuts Maria Theresa’s royal apartments. All built for her one night stay every year or two when Tom Bodet was leaving the light on for her.
